Credit Cards have become ubiquitous in today’s society. Some people use them sparingly while others use them to extend a lifestyle that they cannot afford and there in lies the problem. Once you have fallen into the credit card trap the companies who administrate the cards have all sorts of ways to keep you in debt. In fact you’ll probably be astonished to learn of some of their techniques, listed below:

1. Even if you have been a card holder for years and never missed a payment they can still hike up your rate. They don’t have to have a reason if they have it written into your fine print. That’s why it is so important to read the tedious paragraphs on the back of your application. Many credit card companies have this ability so be careful! Your credit card company doesn’t care about you, they only care about making money.

How To Rip Off People And Get Away With It!

Most people would say they hate telemarketers but this story will really make your blood boil. Recently the Federal Trade Commission broke up a huge telemarketing scheme run by a company called Suntasia. Suntastia schemed and stole a total of $172 million dollars from it’s victims. Right about now you are probably thinking it’s a good thing that the FTC broke up this scam…

Well the FTC stopped the scam and then proceed to fine the company $50 million dollars. Sure that is a lot of money but they stole $172 million. That is $112 million dollars that they get to keep with the governments approval. Where is the incentive to keep these criminals from victimizing again. In effect they have been let off the hook with barely a flick on the wrist. Sure $50 million dollars is a big fine but why let them keep any money at all? If anything this is sending a loud and clear message to other criminals that they should look into ripping people off in this manner because there is the potential for huge profits once you give the government their share.

How To Avoid Being Scammed on the Internet

The most important thing to remember when it comes to not falling for an Internet scam is the old adage “If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.”.  Sure there are some good deals to be found online but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be getting all sorts of goodies for free.  If you receive an email or visit a site offering a product at an unbelievable price… Be Skeptical!  Here are 5 tips to help you stay scam free this holiday season.

1. Google It:  One excellent (But Not Foolproof) way to check on a vendor is by going to Google and typing in the name of the product and the word “Scam”.  Another variation on this is to type in the name of the website and the word “scam”.  If other people have been ripped off on this product or by this company then chances are they have written about it somewhere online and Google will help you learn from their mistakes.
