American’s Want Free Socialism

Since the election of President Obama the word “Socialism” has been on the tongue of many Americans.  Socialized health care, socialized retirement, socialize anything you can get your hands on.  After all health care should be free and universal right?  No one should ever go hungry or be homeless.  Let’s not forget that no matter how you may have wasted your life away you should be entitled to receive money when you get older so you can retire.  You’re an American after all, retirement is your God given right.

The problem is as Americans we want a great deal but when it comes time to pay up, no one wants to do so.  We need to decide, do we want lower taxes or do we want more services?  There is a trade off between the two.  If you want “free” health care for everyone then be prepared to pay for it.  If you want Social Security then be prepared to really pay for it.  Recently the Peterson Foundation calculated the federal government accumulated $56.4 trillion in total liabilities and unfunded promises for Medicare and Social Security as of September 30, 2008.  That is $184,000 for every man, woman, and child here in the US.  To put it another way that’s $483,00 per household.  Do you have that kind of money?  That money is going to have to come from somewhere so be prepared when your taxes start to go up.

Ladies did your men “swagger” like President Obama on V-Day? But as the story crystallizes, turns out the two headed to a posh Chicago restaurant who shares a chef with Oprah. Not the same as ordering a cake in the middle of addressing the economic crisis, but it still counts as “swagger.” (Read On…)

“Free” Health Care Costs Everyone

Universal health care is a hot topic that seems to become a popular subject around every election cycle.  Many people see it as a some sort of cure all for America’s social problems.  That brings about the question, does everyone deserve free health care?  Is that something that we as Americans feel should apply to everyone?  While America has always been a traditionally capitalist country there are areas, such as police, fire, and education where we have we have chosen to socialize those services.  Will health care be the next area to be socialized?

Don’t Expect Much From the Stimulus Package

On Monday, February 16th President Obama will sign into law the nearly $800 billion dollar stimulus package and most likely he will do so with a great deal of excitement. So what will the stimulus package do for you? For the vast majority of Americans there will be little to no change at all in their lives other than perhaps a small tax credit. The stimulus package isn’t geared toward the 90-94% of Americans who have jobs, it is geared toward helping the 6-10% who don’t.  That is exactly why it will fail to bring about any meaningful change.

Executive Pay Limitations Won’t Result In ‘Brain Drain’.

Almost as soon as President Obama announced that he would limit compensation for executives at firms which take Federal Bailout funds, his critics started saying that this would cause ‘Brain Drain’ from those institutions. Their argument was that the companies won’t be able to attract high end talent anymore to come work for them. You know, the high end talent capable of running a major financial institution into the ground to the point where they need billions in bailout money to keep going.
