GM (Cadillac) Just Doesn’t Get What Good MPG Really Is!

GM will fail and the longer it goes on the worse it is going to be. If you need proof of this look no further than their latest television ad promoting the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid. It compares their vehicle to a Mini Cooper and they brag about getting 20 mpg for their hybrid versus 19mpg for the Mini Cooper. Even after the gas crisis that arose last year they just don’t seem to understand that 20 mpg isn’t something to be proud of.  Why would you spend your advertising dollars promoting a car which gets such poor MPG when you know consumers are looking for fuel efficiency, especially with the economy the way it is?

Obama’s First 100 Days Will Be A “Failure”

Before you get all defensive because someone is calling Obama’s first 100 days a failure please realize this article is hardly about putting down President Obama.  However with that said, there are people that will say he has failed to live up to the hype.  For starters of course, he hasn’t walked on water a single time.  That alone seems to be enough to dismay some people.  On a more serious note; the issue at the forefront of the politics, the economy, is not one which can be meaningfully changed in only 100 days.

Too Few Believe In The Bill Of Rights (7th & 8th Amendments)

Amendment VII

In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

The 7th amendment is not one we often think about.  It doesn’t provide us with free speech or the right to have firearms, nor does it protect us from cruel and unusual punishment.  The seventh amendment gives us the right to a trial by jury.  Why did the founding fathers feel it was important to include this in the Bill of Rights?  Specifically they wanted to ensure that the legal process was fair and balanced.  A trial by jury helps to even out the playing field for the person being tried because instead of having one almighty power (The Judge) the power to make a final decision is entrusted to many.  The judge still can control certain aspects of the trial and even negate a verdict if he or she finds it to be out of line with the evidence or the law, however the judge cannot then impose his own verdict.  The seventh amendment is about fairness and balance.

Google Android to Threaten Microsoft in the Netbook Market

You may have already heard of the Google Android operating system, it was originally designed to run on modern mobile “smart” phones. However, with the advent of the netbook (small ultra portable laptop like devices) there has been interest in porting Android onto these machines. Why would someone want to run cell phone software on a computer? For starters the software runs very well without much hardware horsepower. Secondly, Android brings with it the well established Google name. Whereas before consumers selected from Microsoft XP or Ubuntu they could very soon be given the choice of choosing between Windows 7 and Google Android.

Hollywood: Land of False Idols

The system of values in the United States has fallen very far askew, particularly when it comes to the importance of Hollywood “stars” and sports figures in our lives.    Their compensation has grown at a pace completely out of line with their value to society.  Think about what a teacher makes who spends all day with your children, shaping them into who they will become someday, and now think about what they make in relation to say ‘Brad Pitt’.  That is not to say that Brad Pitt is a bad man.  He makes what he does because movie studios are willing to pay him that much but the only reason they can pay him that much is because the citizens of this country are willing to collectively fork over billions of dollars each year to support the movies studios.
