Toyota cable problems are decades old…

Much has been made about the accelerator cable problems which have plagued several Toyota models recently but this type of problem has been decades in the making for the automaker.  In 1985 Toyota introduced a ground breaking sports car, the MR2 and it had cable problems of it’s own.  Specifically the emergency brake cable was susceptible to moisture infiltration.  If you lived in a Northern climate this was especially problematic in the winter.  An emergency brake set during a warm day would be frozen solidly in place the next day when the owner tried to move the car.  Conversely the emergency brake would frequently be frozen such that it could not be applied after the owner drove the car around.

Toyota knew about it’s cable problem then also but did nothing to fix it.  It knew that it needed to develop better technology to prevent these types of problems from occurring in it’s vehicles.  Unfortunately, almost 24 years has passed since the MR2 cable issue surfaced.  It still remains unfixed by Toyota.  One can only wonder if Toyota had investigated the problem further back then if the lessons learned could have made a difference with it’s current problems regarding moisture infiltrating mechanical cable systems.  Perhaps lives could have been saved?

Toyota quality & it’s response to those situations simply isn’t what it used to be.  In recent years it’s Tacoma model has suffered from frame rust issues which forced a recall of entire vehicles.  There is good evidence to suggest that it’s Tundra model suffers from a similar problem however nothing has been done on that front.  The cost of recalling entire vehicles is just too high and Toyota has put it’s bottom line ahead of customer safety again.

Newspapers & Local News Stations Reap What They Sow

How often in the last six months or so have you heard your local newspaper or news station proclaiming that the sky was falling down on the economy? Probably more often than you would have liked. Certainly the global economy is in turmoil but at least in the beginning it wasn’t as bad as it was being reported to be. Unfortunately, news companies see bad news equaling high ratings in this country. So it was in their short term interest to make the economy seem as bad as possible in order for them to drive up ratings. (Read On…)

Facebook Is NOT Turning Into A Pay Site

For a while now a Facebook group has been circulating which contends “Because of Facebook’s huge popularity Mark Zuckerberg is getting a lot of offers from people wanting to buy Facebook. People Who WILL turn it into a paysite.” The original group can be found here.  Over 3 Million people have joined the group which is astonishing in itself.  However, the threat of Facebook becoming a pay site has absolutely no basis in fact.  It’s like saying Walmart is going to get bought out because it is so hugely popular and the new owners are going to sell off each store to families so it will be a family run business again.  Yeah it could happen but it is extremely unlikely.

An Eventual Shift Away From Chinese Made Goods

Lately it seems every time we turn around there is another story involving Chinese made goods which are causing health problems. In the past it has been lead tainted toys, tainted dog food and melamine in baby formula. Now it seems that Chinese made drywall is making people sick down in the South East, particularly Florida. The drywall is making homes smell like rotten eggs and even worse than that it is corroding the electrical wiring in the homes. People have also reported health problems from breathing the fumes.

AIG Bonus Outrage – Blame Senator Dodd

Surely by now you are heard that AIG gave out huge bonuses to it’s “top” employees.  They were able to do so because Democratic Senator Chris Dodd from Connecticut added a loophole in the legislation he helped author which allowed AIG to give out the bonuses in the first place.  A stupid move to say the least which is why he initially lied to cover it up but when you look at his campaign contributions you can see what really happened.  “Coincidentally” AIG just happened to donate $103,100 dollars to Mr Dodd’s campaign in 2008.  In fact he was the top recipient of political campaign contributions from AIG last year.  You’re a smart reader, you can put two and two together and see what happened here.  Of course Mr. Dodd is shocked and outraged. It is interesting to also note that AIG contributed it’s money almost 3-1 in favor of Democrats.  They know who their friend are.
